homework
We need a sentence that shows some research connected to what we’re discussing. Maybe something that talks about the problems of habitual behaviour or the disadvantages of indoor activities/watching too much television…
Find this missing information//sentence we need for Atousa’s paragraph and bring it to class tomorrow. Be prepared to explain exactly how you found this information and how long it took you.
*How do I find this information?
Go to google bar, write down the words "tv influence on life" and then, you will find a lot of information that you need. For example, I find a piece of article about tv effect called "How does tv influence your life---more than you would have thought",that could be exactly what I want.

we live in a world in which we are dangerously influenced by media images
With development of the technology, watching TV is not a difficult thing any more. We could find them almost everywhere covering any corner of the world. What they were, what they are and what they will be in the future, some people have been realising it has been changing our life more or less.
On one hand, the media images give us more useful and direct information we want, so we don't need to hear from other people who we don't know or doubt whether their claims are true or false, and also they make our life more convenient than ever before, thus, we can decide quickly and easily what kind of strategies should be made, especially for the business people and the politicians; But on the other hand, we do become more passive and uninvolved since we have got them. We prefer to stay at home doing everything we need to, which could make the whole society be in a mess and silence stage; Furthermore, lots of image medias come with a great deal of exposure to sex and violence, which could make people feel amazing and want to copy the action from them. All of this make us have to start thinking whether the world is worth living on? Clearly, the media images have worse influence.
It will be very serious for the entire society if people spend more time on media images or imitate unreal amazing and dangerous actions to these who really exist. Therefore, the media images should be restricted in some ways.
As you will see the first part of this essay will be showed through some fingers and charts about the recent research of negative impact on people's life. The second part of this essay is going to discover the season why the media images have so big power to affect people's behaviour, and finally, it will be given the solution to the problems.

feelings about the first seminar
Our points of view about the different TV programmes people watch, influence, importance of watching it and the perpose of it are mostly common, however, it seemed we never made a agreement at the end. Maybe just because we would like to practise all of the phrases we learned. It was nice when we tried to use these for agreeing and disagreeing with each other. However, there were still some lack of points. Sometimes it became strugling to express one's opinion, which seemed like a kind of tongue twister; I knew the words, I knew the sentences and even though I knew whatever they thought, but it turned out quite differently when I spoke them.
According to our discussion, the female wathched more drama and romantic stories on TV, whileas the male watched more violence and live news, futher, it still varied between the yonger ages and the olders. What kind of TV programmes could influenced people behavior was most around the fashion trend, especially the teenagers who always wanted to be like the stars they desired and copied what they did. As to the perpose of TV should be, we kept each different opinions as well.
In general, our group's seminar was sucessful, every person got the chance to show us their perspectives although the time was not enough.

Make a first impression
4.Why do you think planning is important when you are writing an introduction?
Organize well and keep the key points for the introduction. The basis of the introduction.
5.Look at the example essay question: "Is the present level of immigration in the United Kingdom beneficial to the country?" Read the introduction (below the plan). You should be able to see that the introduction contains all the elements from your answer to question 1 in the Section A. Also, notice the use of verb tenses.
Immigration is an emotive subject which is seldom out of the news. The recent rise in immigrants in the United Kingdom from the new European Union countries has refocused debate on this controversial issue.(why it's important) It is a topic which is difficult to explore because of the lack of hard data and the preponderance of anecdotal evidence.(hard to answer) As already mentioned, immigration recently has largely consisted of Europeans but there is also a constant flow of migrants from other parts of the world, some of whom arrive seeking refuge from war or famine and some of whom claim asylum.(define terms)This essay will attempt to explore the benefits to the UK of immigration by firstly examining the economic arguments surrounding the issue, and then by looking at the social issues involved.(outline of this essay)
6. I would like you to rewrite this introduction (to the same question) using the language suggestions from the University of Manchester website and post it on your blog by the end of this class. If you do not have a blog, write it on a separate sheet of paper to give to me by the end of class.
Nowadays, there has been a highly reasonable number of immigrants in the United Kingdom. Immigration, which is always out of the news, is always a coversial issue. It is impossible to restrict them just through the policy or voilent methods. Still, it is a difficult issue as well because of the lack of good data and preponderance of anecdotal evidence. Some of the immigrants here from new Europen Union countries and other countries are refugees who come from wars or famine and some of them are asylum seekers.
Why this essay is existed is to find out the benefits from this kind of immigration, although it will be stressful on public services and government.

homework
1. Which of the grammar points you have problems with are more important for a> writing
b>speaking c>both
My answer: a>. It doesn't matter to make mistakes in speaking, as long as you can make sure other people could understand you.
2. Do you think that doing lots and lots of grammar ecercises is the best way to improve your grammar?
My answer is NO. Most of times, the grammar exercises are departed from the essay, for example, you would make grammar mistakes when you are writing an essay, although you could do any exercises correctly.
3.Can you think of any other activities that you could do without having to pick up a grammar book?
My answer: Listening to the teacher carefully when they are showing the grammar, reading more books to establish your own feeling of good grammar, that is to say, when you face a grammar problem, you can judge it by your feeling which is the best answer, and then give your choice. Sometimes the grammar book is more guideline than practise.
4.How do you think you've learnt the grammar you already know well?
My answer: More listening and reading + a little bit exercise (learning rules is more important)
In my point of view, what's I need to focus on is some kind of collocations and phrasal verbs which make me confused most of the time. It will be highly appreciated if I could learn more at class in these areas.
introduction about myself
I have been here nearly 4 months. When I just arrived, it was so difficult for me---different country, different people, different culture and what's the most I was alone, nobody knew me, nobody cared me. It was just like a kind of evil I thought. Those days, I missed my family so much.
Well, anyway, I survived. I met new people, made new friends, tried to study hard. It was the start of new life. I liked this feeling.
I'm sure you'll realise how I'm fine now if you are dealing with me. If somebody tell you that I am a really good girl, and that will be true. I can show most of my positive personalities to you. I'm friendly, considerable, warmhearted, patient and reliable. At the same time, if somebody tell you that I am quite timid, not talking too much and not easy going, that will be true as well. I am talktive sometimes and suddenly become quiet, I'm slow pace of thinking and always realise something that already happened a long time ago.
I have very little eyes which always make people think I am sleeping when I am at class. And you will often hear the words "Shuangning, wake up! Stop sleeping" especially when I say nothing at all. Anyway, I am the special, the only person in the world.
